New Delhi, October 18
The Delhi Government has ordered demolition of one of its school buildings while five others have been vacated, after they were declared "dangerous" for staff and students during inspections.
The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held yesterday to discuss long-standing issue of demolition of six government school buildings.
The Land and Estate branch of the Delhi's Directorate of Education had found six government school buildings dangerous, including Kanjhawla Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalya, Govt Girls Senior Secondary School-Shahbad Dairy, Jahangirpuri, Bhalswa Dairy; Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya-Pul Bangash and Dariya Par Kalan.
The inspecting panel found Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalya in Kanjhawla to be posing great risk to another building in the vicinity and approvals have been obtained for its demolition. The other five buildings have been vacated and their demolition is likely to pave way for construction of new buildings. For the time being, the schools running through these buildings have been shifted to alternative spaces.
In addition, the inspection team also identified five other schools as dangerous- Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya-Narela and Shakarpur, Sarvodaya Vidyalaya Auchandi, Government Girls Senior Secondary School-Shahbad Daulatpur, Khayala and Uttam Nagar, Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya Paschim Vihar.
However, a call on whether these buildings need to be vacated or razed is yet to be taken.
