Amid arguments and questions raised by opposition members, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) in its general house meeting today approved an annual budget of Rs 130 crore for the year 2018-2019 and passed 19 resolutions on different issues.
The meeting also clarified that president of the committee is above all, sources said.
However, the general house saw repeated objections from members on curtailing powers of general secretary and opposition members also raised strong objection on projecting good status of Guru Harkrishan Public Schools (GHPS) and hiding information on their bad performance, sources said.
According to the Delhi Gurdwara Act, general secretary has administrative powers. But, the general house today approved that decision taken by the president could not be over-ruled. A senior opposition member, Harmeet Shunty has written a dissenting note on it.
Kartar Singh Chawla, another opposition member said that president could make such proposals only for his tenure and these would not be applicable once his term ends.
Presiding over the meeting, DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK assured the general house to put a 18 years status report of GHPS before the members when education standard and financial crisis issues were raised by Gurmeet Singh Shunty. He also assured that appointment of teachers and staff members would also be done as per government norms that confirms the retrenchment of staff members.
The house took a pledge to support the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhac Committee for opposing the Punjab government’s move to curtail the chapters of Sikh history from the school syllabus, abolition of GST from langar items, legal fight ‘dastar’ and make the community aware about the significance of ‘dastar’.
