The Delhi Government will set up fast track courts to ensure speedy justice to women along with putting in place quick response teams to keep a vigil on crime against them.
Besides, the Justice Verma Committee report will be implemented soon, said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in a function organised by the Department of Women of Child Development here on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Sisodia announced that the government will organise orientation programmes for MLAs and senior officers as well as for the volunteers in all parts of the Capital in order to train them for guarding the interests of women and ensuring their safety.
The Deputy Chief Minister also felicitated five women with "Zila Mahila Samman". These women have shown extraordinary courage in adverse circumstances. The "Zila Mahila Samman" carries a cash prize of Rs 20,000.
On the occasion, he released an annual report of the Delhi Commission for Women for the year 2014.
Woman strangled by husband
A 25-year-old woman was allegedly strangulated by her husband at their residence in west Delhi's Uttam Nagar on Saturday.
The accused, Shahid (29), took away their children - two sons aged five and seven years - with him while fleeing from the house.
He was arrested from his sister's house in Uttam Nagar on Sunday morning.
Shahid told the police that he suspected his wife to be involved in an extra-marital affair, which caused frequent arguments between them.
