Five arrested for drugging, robbing passengers

New Delhi, June 17

Five men have been arrested for allegedly drugging and robbing train passengers inside autorickshaws, the police said today.

The accused were apprehended by the Delhi Police Crime Branch and have been identified as Niyaz Firoz, alias Babloo (32), Nadeem (30), Yaqub (40), Naseem (35) and Dilshad, alias Naseer (28). 

The accused would allegedly buy Ativan--used in treating anxiety disorders--from a medical store, according to the police. They would allegedly mix the drug in cold drinks and offer it to passengers. After drinking the cold drink, the victim would fall unconscious and then got robbed.

"Niyaz would be the autorickshaw driver while Naseem and Yaqub would pose as passengers and Dilshad and Nadeem followed the autorickshaw on a Pulsar motorcycle to help them," said R Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).
