The Special Cell was tipped off about the movements of the gang in the stolen i-10 car. The Special Cell laid a trap near a petrol pump at Peeragarhi Chowk, Delhi, and apprehended them. The car was allegedly stolen by Sanjay and Mukesh from a parking area at Paschim Vihar East Metro Station. A case in this regard was registered on February 16.

The police learnt that Sanjay, Rohit, Shiv, Deepak and one Rahul had allegedly committed a dacoity in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar area.

“Sanjay, Rohit, Deepak and Rakesh had committed another armed robbery of a scooterist of Rs 50,000 and gold jewellery near a gurdwara at Punjabi Bagh on February 21 in broad daylight,” said Rajiv Ranjan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

Sanjay, with his associates Rahul and Rohit, had allegedly robbed Rs 65,000 at gunpoint from the DBG Road police station area on November 1, 2013. Sanjay and his associates had also robbed Rs 13 lakh from a cash van of LIC at Karol Bagh in Central Delhi, he said.

The DCP said Sanjay and Rohit had a long criminal record at the Aman Vihar police station in outer Delhi. “They have been involved in cases of robbery, dacoity, snatching, assault, hurt, and under the Arms Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Excise Act. Shiv was also previously involved in five cases of cheating and under Negotiable Instruments Act in Delhi,” Ranjan added.
