New Delhi, January 21

Swaraj India president Yogendra Yadav today said the Delhi Government’s claims for hike in budget of the education sector, opening of 500 new schools, 20 colleges, recruitment of 17,000 new teachers, implementation of the EWS scheme and improvement of education standard in government schools were deceptive.

As far as the construction of new schools is concerned, in 2014-15, there were 1,007 government schools in Delhi. By the end of 2015-16, there were 1,011. All the four new schools were constructed in the entire year.

The AAP Government claimed to have opened 20 colleges. In fact, not a single college has been opened since AAP has come to power, Yadav said.

He said enrolment in the Delhi Government and the MCD schools has also come down. It fell by 28,000 students in Delhi government schools and by 20,000 students in MCD schools.

Addressing a press conference, Swaraj India leader said contrary to AAP’s promise of ensuring EWS admission benefit to the deserving, it has fared miserably. Of the 42,827 EWS quota seats, 24,372 were unoccupied.

AAP had promised to abolish contractual employment of teachers. Despite repeated assurances, it failed to offer permanent employment to teachers.
