The police received information that Tanveer may come to Okhla Mandi in the early morning hours today and he was moving in a Maruti Swift car.

Accordingly, police picket was deployed in the area. About 4.30 am, personnel deployed at Okhla Mandi red light were informed about a Swift car coming from Lajpat Nagar side. They chased the vehicle. On seeing the police chasing the car, the driver tried to flee. The police team blocked the road by putting barricades.

Inspector Rajender Kumar and sub-inspector (SI) Parvesh Kasana came near the car and challenged the occupants to come out. The driver, realising that he has been caught, took out his pistol and fired gun shots aiming police team, said DCP Chinmoy Biswal (Southeast District).

However, both officials narrowly escaped and warned the accused and fired in the air. Meanwhile, the driver fired towards inspector Kumar and SI Kasana but bullets hit the bullet-proof jackets of both the officials. Soon after cross firing, the accused was overpowered and arrested, the DCP added.

Robbers who fire at cops held

Two robbers, Mukesh and Vishal, were arrested in Farsh Bazar with two country-made guns and four live cartridges and chilli powder, said a police official.

Yesterday, when police officials tried to stop a scooty for checking the pillion rider whipped out a country-made pistol and fired at the team. The bullet could not hurt any of the officials, but team overpowered both the accused, the DCP said.

During interrogation, the accused said they were planning a robbery in the area.

For the purpose, they stole a scooty. As per plan, they came to Anaj Mandi on prowl of easy targets, the official added.
