New Delhi, August 2
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to digitalise the birth and death records of the certificates dating back to 1917. The civic body will maintain details of births and deaths in areas falling under it till 1985.
At present, the NDMC is maintaining its birth and death certificates records online. It has computerised birth and death certificates from 1982 to 2008 and thereafter to the current period.
Having the data in digital mode will make the issuance of these certificates faster, unlike the current tedious process, when it takes 15- 30 days after filing of the application.
It will make the process easier and bring relief to people who can get printouts of certificates on pre-written stationery, dually stamped and countersigned by the Registrar.
A senior NDMC official said the civic body had been receiving requests from people about certificates that were more than 40 years old and record registers were in very poor condition.
So, the NDMC had decided to transfer the data for the period online The data would be available online or families can collect printouts from the Palika Suvidha Kendras and the Registrar’s Office, an official said.
The tender for the project had already been awarded by the NDMC to a software company and the work would start soon, the official added.
