Transport minister Kailash Gahlot on Friday said the government had notified a total of 511 auto-rickshaw stands in every district in the state.
Global Positioning System would be installed in every stand which could be located in Google Maps, he said. The new stands will be notified on the websites of Delhi Government, Delhi Transport Corporation, Metro and other departments. This will help people locate their nearest auto stand. The information about these stands would also be shared on the Delhi Government’s Poocho app, he said.
He said, “On people’s demand and to ease the problem of traffic congestion, the government marked a number of stands for auto-rickshaws in the city. The government issued orders to District Magistrates, Deputy Commissioners, Department of Public Works and other stakeholders to install boards at the marked auto stands along with other materials for the identification of the marked auto stands so that it becomes easy for the commuters to locate the stand.” He also directed them for proper implementation of the plan. He also informed that a committee was formed for marking the stands, which comprised of road owning agencies, including the Delhi Police.
Gehlot said, Central District will have 61 auto-rickshaw stands, New Delhi 10, South Delhi 66, South East 54, East Delhi 46, Shahdra 44, North district 37, North East 15, West district 52, South district 53 and North West district would have 73 stands.
He said city residents were facing problems such as congested roads by haphazardly parked auto-rickshaws on roads. Auto-rickshaw unions had been requesting the Chief Minister for proper notified stands since long, he said.
Gahlot said, only five auto-rickshaws were allowed to be parked at one stand to avoid any hindrance to the traffic and the violators would be punished, said the ministe, adding, the Traffic Police had been directed to keep a tab on violators.
