The South Delhi Municipal Corporation Standing Committee chairperson Shikha Roy told that committee has given the sanction for a proposal, according to which, now the commercial vehicles parked on the roads like bus, truck and taxies will have to be parked in the parking lots, otherwise they will be fined and confiscated by traffic police if parked on unauthorised or residential areas.
She told that first time the rates have been fixed for the big commercial vehicle like bus and truck. with provisions for hourly and monthly pass as well.
As per a Delhi Traffic Police senior official, “Commercial vehicles parked on the road are one of the reasons for causing traffic snarls. Mainly, app-based taxis Ola and Uber are found parked on the roads all over. Now, along with these taxis, the bus and truck drivers will have to park their vehicles in the parking lots as well, having paid the charges."
The SDMC and the traffic police had been receiving complaints about illegal parking on roads of buses and trucks. Since there was no provision of parking of the vehicles in the parking lots, therefore, this new scheme has been enforced.
The places for parking lots have been marked: Lodhi Road Scope Complex, outer side of Tihar Jail, near Saket graveyard, Janakpuri's Janak Cinema, Jasola, Dwarka Sector 13-14 Metro station parking and Iskon parking.
