As soon as the car reached near ESI hospital on KNK Marg, a dumper while taking U-turn at a high speed suddenly lost its control and overturned on the car in which three members of the family died on the spot.

The driver of the dumper, Harpal (48), a resident of Gannaur (Haryana), has been arrested from Sonepat. A case under Sections 279 and 304 A of the IPC was registered, said the DCP (Rohini).

Last year, to put rein on overloaded dumpers and to curb violation of speed limits, Rohini and Punjabi Bagh SDM Santosh Rai had raised the issue and with his staff confiscated dumpers driven during the night.

According to a Delhi Police data, since December 1 to 31, around 1,395 dumpers were prosecuted and from January 1 to February 15, 53 dumpers have been prosecuted for violation of rules.
