US Mission in India organises Student Visa Day to celebrate education ties between India and the United States (US) and this year, it will be held on June 6.
Students applying for study visa for the first time will have to appear in person for an interview to consular officer, said George H Hogeman, Consul General of US Embassy in Delhi. This is a standard procedure unless applicants are below 14.
The students must listen carefully to the questions asked by the officers and respond with real answers instead of a prepared speech. “We know students are nervous. That is okay.”
Currently, around 166,000 Indian students are enrolled in US institutions of higher education. Every sixth international student in the US is from India, who are contributing enormously to every aspect of life at the university and in the surrounding communities, he added.
Embassy’s Fraud Prevention Manager, Elizabeth Lawrence cautiouned against fraud claims, “no one can promise you a US visa.”
