YMCA at its Nizamuddin centre today organised a special cultural and sports events with the help of special children to mark the World Disability Day today.
The YMCA centre is running an institute of special education, a school for special children since 1980.YMCA also launched a specially designed handbook for them. The handbook is available free of cost for NGOs or persons working for the welfare of special children.
On the occasion, special children enacted a ‘nukkad natak’ and participated in different sports events.
Officials from the Aga Khan Foundation also participated in the event. The foundation is running community outreach programme for special children at Nizamuddin basti.
Nizamuddin Centre of YMCA is also running a teachers training programme to train educators for special children. After a 2-year course the teachers can join NGOs and special schools as educators.
According to Sarvjeet Singh, Associate General Secretary of YMCA, “We not only take care of special children in our school, but also go to communities to make people aware about the difficulties they face.”
