The police have taken a big initiative to bring JJ Cluster youth in the mainstream of Delhi by launching “YUVA” — a skill development programme. The police want to groom this stratum of society by imparting skill development training to the unemployed youngsters of the slum areas in different police stations of the city.
During the launch Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, “This is a great step taken by the police to bring underprivileged section in mainstream. It is a major achievement of the police.”
“Talent and skill do not develop only in big houses, but underprivileged equally have immense potential which has to be streamlined. Instead of these youths getting into crime and drugs, the police should engage them in community policing,” added the Home Minister.
While Lt Governor Anil Baijal expressed his happiness that he has seen a lot of change in the perception of the people about the police due to their initiatives in community policing and their “connect” with lower sections of society. He said the youngsters trained under this scheme will be brand ambassadors of the Delhi Police.
Commissioner of Police Amulya Patnaik said, “So far, 2,269 candidates have been selected to be trained by 36 training partners in 45 programmes in the next three months. The whole process of selection of these candidates is paperless. The idea is to reconnect the youth that has alienated from society.”
If these youths trained well, they can do wonders,” dded Patnaik.
Varun (name changed), who is a part of the programme, said it’s a blessing. “I don’t come from a background that can provide me with the means to get higher education, but this programme is giving us training for which any other places would have charged lakhs of rupees.”
