Executive member of the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) along with other teachers today protested against the university administration for the delay in issuing confirmation letters to teachers who were appointed through due process.
Calling it a “serious violation” of the university ordinance and statues, the teachers maintained that the affected teachers have not been intimated even as their probation is about to end soon.
“The period of probation is for 12 months and it may be extended only in exceptional circumstances, wherein the Executive Council has to decide on the extension and inform the teachers before the expiry of eleven months after appointment,” said DUTA president Nandita Narain.
“There has been no intimation before the expiry of the eleven months, this delay is in gross violation of Annexure 1-A to Ordinance XI of the DU Act, Statutes and Ordinances which categorically defines the probation period at twelve months,” said DUTA secretary Sandeep.
They said these teachers are being “unduly harassed” and denied their right to confirmation. While some teachers have been given their confirmation letter, the teachers’ body demanded that there be no further delay in issue of confirmation letters and the “harassment” meted out teachers.
After today’s protest outside the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the DUTA has called for a pen down strike and public meeting at the Arts Faculty Gate tomorrow.
