‘Now, who’s mentally unstable’: Navjot Kaur Sidhu trades barb in new post with Capt Amarinder Singh over ‘unstable couple’ jibe
Accuses CM Mann of facilitating liquor and mining mafia in Punjab, seeks security cover
A political storm seems to have erupted in Punjab after former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh strongly criticised suspended Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu, calling her claim of “Rs 500 cr for CM chair in Punjab” a “total lie” and describing both her and her husband as “unstable” in an interview with PTI.
“That couple is unstable. Navjot Sidhu was my minister. Despite being given two portfolios, he constantly complained. I even gave him the power department, but he quit and left files pending for months. He was not fit for the job,” Amarinder Singh said.
Responding sharply, Kaur took to X and questioned Amarinder Singh’s record, asking, “Now who’s mentally unstable and needs critical care?”

Kaur traded the barbs as she linked a X post of KBS Sidhu, a former special chief secretary in Punjab, which read: "Just watched Captain Amarinder Singh’s PTI interview and put it into perspective in my new piece, “A Disgruntled and Dejected Captain’s Disenchantment — and Punjab’s Need to Move On.” He criticises the BJP’s centralised, non-consultative culture, reminisces about Congress’s consultation, calls the Akalis parochial, and labels AAP’s Punjab government a Delhi “remote control” project—before still floating a BJP–SAD tie-up."

Amarinder Singh resigned as chief minister in September 2021 following internal turmoil within the Congress. He later quit the party, formed a separate political outfit, and merged it with the BJP in 2022.
Suspended Congress leader Sidhu has sought security cover from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, citing concerns for her safety amid a political storm triggered by her controversial “Rs 500 crore for the chief minister’s chair” remark.
CM , Bhagwant Mann ji ; I think I need some security now or else you will be responsible. And kindly answer why there is no response from your side on my issues raised before the Honourable Governor Punjab??? Why are you facilitating liquor and mining mafia??? pic.twitter.com/1EROh3i181

In another late-night post on X on Friday, Kaur questioned the chief minister’s “silence” on issues she had raised with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and accused the Mann government of “facilitating the liquor and mining mafia.”
“CM Bhagwant Mann ji, I think I need some security now, or else you will be responsible. Kindly answer why there is no response from your side on the issues I raised before the Honourable Governor of Punjab. Why are you facilitating the liquor and mining mafia?” she wrote.
Kaur also shared a copy of the memorandum submitted to the governor, alleging a “land scandal” involving illegal occupation of protected forest land around the Shivalik hills and attempts by the state government to regularise such encroachments. She further alleged that law and order in Punjab was deteriorating. The controversy began after Kaur told reporters that her husband, former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, would return to active politics only if the Congress named him its chief ministerial face. She claimed they did not have the money to offer any party but could transform Punjab into a “golden state.”
“We always speak for Punjab and Punjabiyat, but we do not have Rs 500 crore to give to sit in the chief minister’s chair,” she said after meeting the governor. Her remarks sparked a backlash, prompting the Punjab Congress to suspend her from the party’s primary membership. Kaur later issued a clarification on X, stating her comments had been misinterpreted. “I said the Congress never demanded anything from us and that we have no money to offer for a CM’s post,” she said.
