India hands Test debut to left-handed batter B Sai Sudharsan while seasoned middle-order batter Karun Nair comes back into the playing XI along with all-rounder Shardul Thakur
The five-match Test series against England is an opportunity for Karun to cement his place in the side, years after becoming only the second Indian batter to score a triple century in Test cricket
There were reports in April that Mumbai teammates Jaiswal and Rahane had a falling out during the last Ranji Trophy season after the side’s defeat to Jammu and Kashmir
India’s batting line-up will be thin on experience with both Kohli and Rohit announcing their retirements from the format last month
Chopra set the tone early, launching the spear 88.16m on his first attempt, immediately taking the lead. Germany's Julian Weber came close with a best of 87.88m but fell short. Brazil's Mauricio Luiz da Silva secured third place with a throw of 86.62m.
England bowling coach Tim Southee praised the depth and quality of the Indian Test side after a commanding performance by the visitors on Day 1 of the first Test against England at Headingley. India ended the day at a formidable 359/3, thanks to standout performances from captain Shubman Gill, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, and vice-captain Rishabh Pant. 'I think the class of Indian side, no matter how many games they have played, is always going to be pretty good. They're certainly talented cricketers,' Southee said.
India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his admiration for newly-appointed Test captain Shubman Gill following their crucial 129-run partnership on Day 1 of the first Test against England at Headingley. Jaiswal, who smashed a fluent 101 off 159 balls, lauded Gill's calmness and composure at the crease, describing their time together in the middle as 'amazing.'
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
