Workshop on child protection laws

“It is our responsibility to protect the rights of our children and we should make efforts to raise happy and healthy children,” said Jyoti Bainda, Chairperson, Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, here on Friday.

Bainda, who was here to preside over the inaugural session of the two-day capacity-building workshop on child protection laws and counselling practices, said it was very important to identify child abuse cases and report these to the police.

The workshop was attended by counsellors of conflict management and counselling centres established by the Education Department and counsellors from the project ‘Sukoon’ of the Haryana Health Department. Participants were enlightened on the issue of child sexual abuse and related legal framework.

Prof Adarsh Kohli, senior professor, PGI, addressed the participants on child sexual abuse and risk factors. The session on laws against child sexual abuse was conducted by Manbir Rathi, master trainer. The second day of the workshop will cover legal framework related to child protection.
