Legal body awards Rs 3 lakh interim relief to rape victim

FARIDABAD: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has handed over a cheque for Rs 3 lakh to the kin of the victim of the gangrape incident of September 18.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has handed over a cheque for Rs 3 lakh to the kin of the victim of the gangrape incident of September 18.

The accused, who are in judicial custody, are likely to be produced in the court on Sunday as the police has sought their custody on production warrant.

Stating that an interim relief of Rs 3 lakh had been released to the victim, Ravinder Gupta, advocate, DLSA, said it was part of the help provided by the DLSA under the “Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme” of the Haryana Legal Services Authority (HALSA).

Gupta said the compensation amount could be increased as the maximum limit was Rs 5 lakh per case. He also said that the case would be tried in a fast track court.

Meanwhile, Sube Singh, PRO, Police Department, said the SIT would seek the police custody of the accused who would be produced in the court on Sunday. The application for the production warrant had already been placed with the authorities concerned, he said.

The victim (20) was gangraped by four accused in presence of her male friend. While the identity of the four accused was still to be disclosed officially by the police, they had committed the crime on Tuesday night when the victim and her male friend were on their way on their motorcycle to some place near the IMT chowk on the bypass road along the Agra canal here.

The victim had identified all four accused last evening, it was revealed.
