Cop hit by biker, hurt

CHANDIGARH: A Head Constable was injured after a motorcyclist hit him while he was on duty at the Sector 14/15 light point on Wednesday.

A Head Constable was injured after a motorcyclist hit him while he was on duty at the Sector 14/15 light point on Wednesday.

According to the police, Head Constable Rattan Kumar of the traffic wing was on duty when he saw a motorcyclist jumping the red light. The cop signalled the motorcyclist to stop. However, the motorcyclist, Sandeep Kumar, hit the cop, leaving him injured.

The injured cop was rushed to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16.

The police said the accused was arrested and a case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty) of the IPC and Section 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered against the accused at the Sector 11 police station.
