Patiala, June 21

The Health Department will organise a special pulse polio campaign for children of migrant workers from July 2 to 4.

During a meeting of the district health society at the Mini Secretariat here, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Poonamdeep Kaur said, “As migrant workers keep moving from one part of the country to other, their children are deprived of polio drops. So, the government has decided to launch a special campaign only for their children.”

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said the campaign will focus on brick kilns, slum areas, factories and construction sites in the city where migrants live.

The ADC said in Patiala, there were around 211,588 migrant workers and their 25,475 children needed to be given polio drops. She said the department had formed 192 teams, of which 180 will visit residential areas. As many as 12 mobile teams will cover 430 factories, slums and 152 brick kilns.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner further added that on June 26, a state-level programme would also be organised against drug menace at the Medical College, Patiala. Cabinet Minister Brahm Mohindra will be the chief guest on the occasion.
