Pioneer of several surgical techniques in minimal invasive surgeries and a master of 3-dimension laparoscopy, robotic and laser surgeries, Dr Krishna Mohan advocates for French technology based DEX robotic surgery designed with a robot in mind.

He believes it is the safest and cost-effective method of advanced technology for complicated surgeries.

Fellow of Robotic Surgery (Seoul) and senior consultant urologist, consultant and renal transplant surgery at MIART (Metromed Institute of Advanced Urology and Renal Transplant), Calicut, Kerala, Dr Krishna is today a surgeon of international repute, but he owes his success to IGMC.

An alumnus of IGMC, Dr Krishna says: “Whatever I am today is because of IGMC, Shimla, where I was a senior resident, pursuing my post-graduation (2002 to 2005). I would be willing to extend all guidance and support to the institution.”

“IGMC has emerged as a premier institution of international repute due to the hard work and skill of doctors who passed out from here,” Dr Krishna, who was here to attend a seminar said.

Dr Krishna has immense experience as he was part of surgical team which completed over 1,500 laser surgeries of prostate and about 900 renal transplants successfully.

He is the coordinator of laser training and key hole surgical training for practicing urologist from all over India in association with Urocare Trust and Aesculap Academy, Germany.

“DEX surgery is the safest and cost-effective method of advanced technology for complicated surgeries. Dex robot is an agile robot, which can be controlled with buttons in the robotic handle and can have the haptic feedback throughout the procedure, which is highly important for suturing and handling disease pathology,” he said.

About the equipment

Dex robotised equipment with 3-D Einstein vision is almost equal to or more than open surgery as surgeon operates in 3-dimensional view through a small access. Due to 10-time magnification and accurate depth perception, bleeding is less, surgical field is very clear and surgery becomes faster. This technology is much beneficial to junior surgeons, significantly in shortening the learning curve since the orientation within the operating field corresponds to natural spatial vision, says Dr Krishna Mohan
