Nearly 35 allottees of the LIG flats of the Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) have filed cases with the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum here, protesting that even after making several requests to the JIT officials, they had neither received the possession of their flats nor any refund.

The consumer forum, after verifying facts, gave judgment to one of the complaints Sohan Lal a few days ago, telling the JIT to pay back the whole amount with 9 per cent interest.

Allottees alleged that the money they had given to the improvement trust in 2010 for building flats under the 51.5-acre scheme announced by the JIT in 2009 was meant for the development of Bibi Bhani Complex, but instead of building the flats, the money had been used for other purposes.

Sohan Lal said, “I gave the complete amount of Rs 6, 24,800 to the JIT in 2010. Despite depositing the amount asked, I have not been given the possession of my flat. I knocked the doors of the officials of JIT many times, but I got no response.”

Sick of the red tape, I filed my plea with the consumer forum, and I am happy now as the judgement has been given and the improvement trust will return my money, he added.
