Ludhiana, September 19

Three persons posing as CIA police tried to extort money from a shopkeeper at Gurmel Nagar today. They were exposed when several shopkeepers gathered there and confronted them. While two managed to escape, the third one was nabbed by the shopkeepers. He was later handed over to the Daba police.

Chaulai Parshad, a shopkeeper, said he was a native of Bihar and ran a provisional store. In the afternoon, three persons arrived at his shop and introduced themselves as the Daba police staff. Claiming that they were from the CIA staff, they accused the shopkeeper of selling stolen goods. “When I protested, they threatened me with an FIR. They asked me to give Rs 20,000 as bribe to escape action. When I refused, they reduced the bribe amount to Rs 10,000 and threatened that I would be taken to the police station,” said Chaulai.

He called his son and nearby shopkeepers. Two of the fake cops escaped while one was cornered by the shopkeepers. The Daba SHO said no such matter had come to his notice and the police would investigate on receiving a complaint.
