Two rape cases were registered in the city on Thursday. In the first incident, a 28-year-old woman accused her father-in-law of raping her. She told the police that she got married in 2016 and had a baby boy. Recently, when she was alone at home, her father-in-law offered her cold drink laced with sedatives and the moment she drank it, she fell unconscious. She alleged that he raped her, not once, but five to six times.

IO ASI Harpreet Singh said the accused was working in some private business establishment and was yet to be arrested.

In another case, a girl was raped by a man on the pretext of marrying her. The accused has been identified as Kuljit Singh, alias Sonu, a resident of Manjit Nagar. Complainant, a resident of the same locality, told the police that the accused had recently came to her locality, due to which she developed friendship with him. The accused used to visit her house in the absence of her family members. She said on the pretext of marrying her, he got physical with her. “When I asked him for marriage, he backtracked from his promise. The matter then reached the panchayat, in which it was decided on July 29 that the accused would solemnize marriage with me on August 1, but he fled,” the complainant alleged. Investigation Officer ASI Chand Aahir said raids were on to nab the accused.
