Mansa police bust gang making duplicate phone batteries, chargers

BATHINDA: The Mansa police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang involved in making fake mobile phone batteries and supplying it to the market by pasting stickers of renowned branded companies.

The Mansa police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang involved in making fake mobile phone batteries and supplying it to the market by pasting stickers of renowned branded companies.

The police have arrested Vinod Kumar, a resident of Mansa, and recovered 46,663 batteries, which with a market cost of Rs 1.16 crore from him. Apart from this, the police also seized 750 duplicate leads and 400 duplicate chargers.

Mansa SSP Dr Narinder Bhargava said: “The police got a tip-off that Vinod Kumar, Ravi Kant and Rahul Kumar, all residents of Mansa, had made a gang, which brought China-made material and prepared duplicate mobile batteries. They pasted stickers of Samsung, Nokia, iPhone and other companies and supplied these fake products in Punjab and outside by claiming these to be original.”

The SSP also claimed that the police have registered a case against under Sections 420, 120B of the IPC and Sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act, 1957. Later, acting on a tip-off, Mansa city 2 SHO Mohan Lal and SI Angrej Singh, incharge of Mansa CIA staff, conducted a raid and nabbed accused Vinod Kumar. 

The police also claimed that Vinod was booked for making duplicate batteries in 2018 and the case was going before a court. He was out on bail. They also stated that during interrogation, the suspect claimed that they ordered material to prepare duplicate batteries from China’s MHTV Company through shipping and Gaffar market in Delhi. Vinod had also gone to China many a time.

The suspect had claimed to have supplied these duplicate batteries to Mansa, Maur, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Jaito, Goniana, Delhi and Sri Ganganagar area in Rajasthan, the police said. The police claimed that the suspect would be presented before the court and police remand would be sought.
