The Tribune Impact: TB-hit Sirmaur village family gets groceries, medical assistance

Help has finally come to the family of Lal Singh, a resident of Kanadi village in Sirmaur district, who died due to tuberculosis. Shillai Subdivisional Magistrate Surendra Mohan today reached the village along with a medical team and the Revenue department officials. The medical team examined the health of all sick family members, while the administration gave rations to the poor family for one month. Besides, utensils were provided to the family.

The Tribune had highlighted that six of the seven members of the family were diagnosed with TB after the death of Lal Singh.

Doctors had advised all the patients to go to Dharampur Sanatorium, the biggest TB hospital of the state, for treatment, but the family members had declined the request. The SDM explained to the patients that they would be cured of the disease at Dharampur Sanatorium. On his request, all patients agreed to go to Dharampur for treatment. SDM Surendra Mohan said orders had been given to the Shillai Block Development Officer and local panchayat head that the family of late Lal Singh should be included in the BPL list at the next meeting of the gram sabha. He also directed to build a toilet in the house of the victim’s family as soon as possible.

The SDM said the medical team was making all efforts to treat the patients. Doctors from Ronhat were visiting them every third day. An ASHA worker had been appointed to look after the family on a daily basis.

The residents of Kanadi village were also making efforts to help the suffering family. Recently, they had met Sirmaur DC Sumit Khimta to apprise him of the condition of the family. The DC had ordered the administration to provide all possible assistance to the family. The villagers have expressed their gratitude to the DC and Shillai SDM for helping the poor family.
