Rs 20-cr RUSA grant to UT colleges

CHANDIGARH: The Project Approval Board (PAB) of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) of the MHRD, Government of India, has accorded approval of Rs 20 crore under infrastructure head to city colleges.

The Project Approval Board (PAB) of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) of the MHRD, Government of India, has accorded approval of Rs 20 crore under infrastructure head to city colleges.

Rs 2 crore each has been granted to Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, Government Home Science College, Sector 10, MCM College for Women 36, Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, DAV College, Sector 10, Regional Institute of English, Sector 32, Shri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26 and Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh.

Earlier, the State Higher Education Plan of UT, Chandigarh, was submitted to the MHRD, New Delhi, under RUSA scheme after due approval of State Higher Education Council, UT, Chandigarh, which was headed by Prof Arun K Grover, Vice Chancellor–cum-Chairman of the State Higher Education Council. The Institutional Development Proposal received from different colleges across the city was integrated into State Higher Education Plan (SHEP).

Jitender Yadav, SPD (RUSA)-cum-Director Higher Education, UT, Chandigarh, said this grant would provide a new dimension in strengthening of infrastructure resources in the existing colleges and helps in providing quality and branding in higher education in UT, Chandigarh. He further said, “An action plan will be prepared in utilising the approved grant in time bond manner as well as following the norms of the MHRD.”

Dr Dalip Kumar, ASPD (RUSA), UT, Chandigarh, said, “The infrastructure grants will be utilised for new constructions like establishment of new laboratories for existing programmes and for new programmes both at the level of PG and UG, new class rooms and support units/ toilets and establishment of computer centre/ lab; renovation/ refurbishment like modernisation and strengthening of laboratories/ sports facilities, improvement of supporting department/ academic and administrative block/ hostel/ toilets and refurbishment (minor civil works in hostel/ toilets etc) and equipments/ procurement (like equipments/ updation (software) of learning resource, strengthening of libraries and access to knowledge resource and procurement of furniture and fixtures).” He mentioned that the grant has been approved on the basis of NAAC grading and the MHRD approved the grant to those colleges having at least B++ NAAC grade.
