Stress among students who are about to appear for Class VIII-XII exams has reached to such levels that children have started neglecting their health, spending sleepless nights and complainiing of vomiting. These symptoms have left parents worried.

Child counsellors and medical practitioners stressed that parents need to be extra cautious as far as children are concerned and theymust not be subjected to undue pressure.

Navpreet Bhattal, counsellor, BCM School said, “There is so much pressure on children. It is not just about board exams. One has to decide for future, future and peer pressure matters a lot. Most of the times, kids are on social media and put each and every detail related to their activities.”

He said, “Children are neglecting their health as exams are approaching. As majority of parents are working, they have no time for their kids. Even at home, children talk to their mothers on phone while sitting in the next room. This is an alarming trend. Children should be our priority.”

Chetna Mehta, a worried mother said her daughter who is a Class X student has started complaining of stomach ache and vomiting. “She is not taking a proper diet. She just sleeps for three-four hours at night. Throughout the year, they take studies lightly and during final exams, they want push themselves to great extent which impacts there health,” said Mehta.

Paramjit Kaur, Principal, BCM School, said as a teacher she would suggest that at this point of time, children should not panic and stay calm. “Stress levels are too high. I must say that students should revise, have enough sleep, must eat home-cooked nutritious food and meditate for a few minutes. Stress need to be controlled to perform better in exams,”said the Principal.
