A Subdivisional Engineer (SDE) of the BSNL, identified as Paramjeet Singh, was caught red-handed by a vigilance team while taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a contractor at his office.

The team was led by DSP, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Yogesh Rolta.

The DSP said the SDE had sought a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from Chander Mohan as his security of Rs 1.40 lakh had been pending with the BSNL for one-and-a-half years.

Mohan had constructed an ayurveda dispensary near Bhumpti for the BSNL. The SDE was unduly raising objections for another work involving the construction of an office of the CDPO at Dharampur and this had put on hold its completion. A sum of Rs 1 lakh had been demanded as a bribe for both works.

Chander Mohan, however, made a complaint to the bureau in this regard.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the SDE.
