In a record of sorts, the traffic police here on Wednesday issued a challan of Rs 35,000 to a motorcyclist.

This comes after two days of the implementation of the amended Motor Vehicles Act under which penalties for various violations have been hiked sharply.

The challan has been issued against the motorcycle owned by one Dinesh Veer, a resident of Korali village of Ballabgarh subdivision of the district. It mentions various violations, including no driving licence, no pollution certificate, no registration certificate, triple pillion riding, driver without helmet, no helmet for pillion rider, no third party insurance and silencer not functional.

The two-wheeler was impounded by the police at Bata Chowk in the city around 4.42 pm today. This is highest amount of challan issued by the district traffic police so far.

On Monday, a Delhi resident was issued a challan of Rs 23,000 in Gurugram. He decided to leave his two-wheeler with traffic cops as its market value was less than the total penalty imposed.

Earlier, challans worth Rs 14,000 and Rs 12,000 had been issued on September 3. The market value of the motorcycle challaned today was less than the penalty, said a kin of the owner of the motorcycle.
