Gurpartap Singh Plasaur, a senior leader of the Congress, and his son Jashandeep Singh of Plasaur village have been booked in a fraud case on Friday.

Gurpartap termed the registration of the case as violation of norms and claimed that an officer other than DSP Richa Agnihotri had been conducting an inquiry in this regard.

He said he would challenge the registration of the case in the court. Gurpartap was in queue of Congress ticket aspirants from Tarn Taran constituency in the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections.

The police said the case had been registered against Gurpartap and his son on a complaint by Mandeep Sharma of Chheharta (Amritsar). The complainant said he gave Rs3.5 lakh to the accused on July 5, 2016, under an agreement to purchase 45.13 kanals of land at Rs60,000 per marla, for which the registry was to be done on May 15, 2017, at the local sub-registrar/tehsildar office.

The accused failed to appear before the tehsildar and violated norms of the agreement. He said whenever he demanded money back from the accused, the father-son duo threatened to eliminate him.

An inquiry was conducted by DSP Richa Agnihotri, on the findings of which SSP Dhruv Dahiya recommended registration of the case.
