An employee of the MC’s water and sewerage wing was attacked when he made a video of a person allegedly wasting water in Ranjit Avenue here on Monday.

Varinder Singh, who has been assigned the task of recovering bills, was asked to keep a check on water wastage in the city. As per the MC Commissioner’s directions, residents are prohibited to wash their cars by using the direct water taps.

Varinder found that a person was washing a car outside the house of Surjit Singh in Ranjit Avenue. As per the official directions, he started making a video of wastage of water on his mobile phone. Meanwhile, the MC employee also asked him not to waste water.

Varinder uploaded the video on the official WhatsApp group. Later, it was uploaded on Facebook.

Surjit felt humiliated with the MC employee’s act and called him in his house. When Varinder went to his house, Surjit Singh and associates attacked him. The accused also hit him in head with an iron rod.

Varinder informed senior MC officials about the incident. Later, a meeting was convened to discuss the issue.

A case under Sections 353, 186, 189, 332 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Surjit Singh and his associates. No arrest has been made so far.
