The contribution of British architect Jane Drew to Chandigarh was celebrated at Le Corbusier Centre here on the occasion of her death anniversary today.

Drew was a part of the core team of Le Corbusier in the design and planning of Chandigarh. In fact she was the one who convinced Corbusier to take the project as the Chief Architectural Adviser supported by Drew, her husband Maxwell Fry and Pierre Jeanneret. The event partnered by World of Women Architects (WoW), Chandigarh, brought together women architects from academics and practice to speak about diverse topics such as mud architecture, education, housing, landscaping, meditation and spirituality in spaces.

Deepika Gandhi, Director, Le Corbusier Centre, said the event was not a commemoration of Drew’s death anniversary, but a celebration of her life and works. Drew had constructed a number of important buildings that are admired for their blend of innovative design and harmony with their environment.
