Prof awarded for helping differently abled

PATIALA:Prof Vishal Goyal of Department of Computer Science, Punjabi University, has been honoured with the State Award on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities held in Ropar on Tuesday.

Prof Vishal Goyal of Department of Computer Science, Punjabi University, has been honoured with the State Award on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities held in Ropar on Tuesday.

The award was bestowed by Cabinet Minister Aruna Chowdhury for his services to the differently-abled persons. 

He along with Dr Lalit Goyal of DAV College, Jalandhar, prepared a mechanical translation system that converts English into ISL synthetic animation. He is now working on a project to broadcast notices on railway stations and airports into a language understandable by ‘divyangs’. The university has also established a research centre for technology development for differently-abled people taken care of by Dr Vishal Goyal.  — TNS
