Chandigarh, March 30.

Chief Minister Parkash SIngh Badal today dedicated the Padma Vibhushan bestowed on him to the state farmers and the sacrifice and hard work of every patriotic Punjabi.

He said the award would further inspire him to devote his life to ensure peace and communal harmony in Punjab and the country. In a statement here, Badal thanked the President and the Central Government for the honour.

He said: “I am too humble and insignificant to merit any nationwide honour. This award is truly the recognition of the role played by the people of my state, who have always put the cause of the nation above themselves. I dedicate this award to the farmers who have toiled selflessly to ensure that their countrymen do not sleep hungry, the soldiers and Punjabis living on the border who have braved the odds for the country's defence, unity and integrity. This honour belongs to our enterprising youth, our selfless and brave mothers and daughters and millions of other Punjabis who have always remained in the forefront of the nation's march towards becoming a global power."

Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, SAD secretary, said the honour was given to the party's chief patron in recognition of his selfless service to society.
