A mahapanchayat was organised at Bhalauth village in the district today to iron out the differences between the All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) and other leaders of the Jat community over the proposed ‘bhoomi-pujan’ of the coaching institute-cum-skill development centre at Jassia village in the district.

Sitting and former sarpanches, youths who had been jailed in connection with the Jat quota stir, representatives of the AIJASS and other community leaders attended the mahapanchayat.

While some participants favoured holding of the bhoomi pujan-cum-rally at Jassia village on November 26, others opposed the move. Heated exchanges also took place during the mahapanchayat, but elders managed to avert confrontations.

The meeting went on till late in the evening, but it remained inconclusive and a fresh meeting has been called at the same venue tomorrow in order to reach a definite conclusion.

Makrauli sarpanch Sumit Arya said a committee comprising five youths who had been jailed in connection with the Jat quota stir, five sarpanches, five representatives of the AIJASS and five general members had been constituted for tomorrow’s meeting and its decision would be final.

On the other hand, AIJASS president Yashpal Malik maintained that the samiti had not sent any representatives to the mahapanchayat and the samiti members who participated in today’s meeting had gone there in their individual capacity.

“We will go ahead with the bhoomi-pujan and rally at Jassia on November 26 as proposed,” he stated.
