Amritsar, October 3

Following reports of privatisation of Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport by the Union Government, MP Gurjit Singh Aujla has welcomed the move.

“The government gives the airports under public private partnership, under which a private company will develop the airport and provide more facilities. So, I welcome the move,” he said. Earlier, the government has privatised six airports in the country and is planning to privatise 20 to 25 more airports in the next phase. According to the sources, the government has decided to privatise six more airports, including Amritsar, Varanasi, Indore, Raipur, Bhubaneswar and Trichy. However, the Airport Authority Employees Joint Forum has been protesting against the move regularly.

Manoj Chansoria, director of the airport, said: “We have not received any communication from government as of now. It is a matter concerning the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airport Authority of India.”— TNS
