Over 1 lakh students participate in Korea-India Friendship Quiz Competition


New Delhi, November 15

Korea-India Friendship Quiz Competition organized by Korean Culture Centre India (KCCI) witnessed the participation of 102,177 students from 2,608 schools from 36 states all across India, the largest quiz event in India based on the number of participating schools and students. The competition started in April 2021 started with the first online school preliminaries, then the second regional city preliminaries, and the last third national final round on 15th November.

  From April to July, 102,177 students from 2,608 schools in 36 states from all over India participated in the first preliminary round held through the website dedicatedly designed for the quiz competition. The website provided various questions about Korea for a set period of time. Flexible timings were provided to participants according to their availability after the registration. An online participation certificate was provided after completing the quiz questions. 

The Event

  •   Korea-India Friendship Quiz Contest, which started in 2016 and marked its 6th anniversary this year, is a contest for the school students in India, dealing with all aspects of knowledge, including culture, history, geography, and tourist destinations of Korea, the country of friend to India. KCCI is promoting and introducing the comprehensive knowledge and information about Korea, as well as important issues in Korea through quizzes using the <Facts about Korea> booklet published by own. As the number of participants increases every year, this year, the event was expanded and held throughout India through online and video systems beyond the traditional face-to-face event.

 The second qualifying round was held from August 16 to September 24 with the best selected students through the first round in 20 cities` individual rounds. Starting with Shillong, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Jammu, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Dehradun, Jaipur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Raipur, Bhopal, Narpur, there were 20 regional rounds through online video conference system.

  The winners from the 20 cities, 20 regional rounds played the semi-finals and finals through online video conference system again on November 8 and 10, respectively, and finally, four finalists were selected.

Sampada Tewari, a student from Pantnagar, Uttar Pradesh, who won first position, said she is very happy to learn about the richness and diversity of Korea in the fields of culture, food, fashion, tradition, and natural scenery through this quiz competition. He thanked KCCI for giving this opportunity, and expressed her hope that the friendship and togetherness of Korea and India can continue forever. Abinav Parewa from New Delhi, who took second place, said that the quiz was a life-changing experience for him. Shashwat Mishra from Lahartara and Karthik Gaur from Amritsar who got third and fourth positions, respectively, said that they are very much looking forward to the visit to Korea, which they would get as a prize.

Hwang Il-yong, director of the Korean Cultural Centre India said, “I was moved by the pure enthusiasm and passion of the participating students. The knowledge and experience gained through passion at a young age can be the foundation for a lifetime. Korean Cultural Centre India will continue to carry out youth cultural exchange projects targeting students in various forms.”
