PATIALA:Patiala pugilist KP Singh Behaniwal (24) has become the state heavyweight champion after winning gold in the first senior state boxing championship that concluded at Talwandi Sabo recently.

Patiala pugilist KP Singh Behaniwal (24) has become the state heavyweight champion after winning gold in the first senior state boxing championship that concluded at Talwandi Sabo recently.

Trained at Government Multipurpose School Boxing Centre in Patiala, Behaniwal, who is working as an inspector in the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Punjab, rose to fame after winning the bronze medal in the President's Cup Boxing Tournament in Kazakhstan. He has also remained all-India inter-university boxing champion four times in a row.

He has been selected for the Punjab squad that will be competing in the coming senior national championship in Assam. Giving credit of his success to his coaches Santosh Dutta and Jaipal Singh, Behaniwal said it was due to their tireless efforts that he took up boxing and now wants to make India proud.
