Manisha Gulati, chairperson, Punjab State Commission for Women, presided over a two-day legal awareness programme at Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Mall road, on Tuesday. She said there was a need to create awareness among women regarding their rights.

She said, “The aim of the legal awareness programme is to discuss crimes against women, such as sexual harassment at work, cybercrime and domestic violence among others. The schoolchildren will be informed about other legal rights in these two days.”

District Science Supervisor Sudeep Kaur said, “It is important to overhaul our education system. The Constitution gives us equal rights. The camp will provide free services to the needy.”

Principal Mandeep Kaur also addressed the gathering.

Balwinder Kaur, schoolteacher, informed the students about the cybercrime. “Never share passwords of accounts of Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms. Avoid befriending strangers on such platforms and report the inappropriate behaviour.” A number of dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
