One more arrested from Varanasi

A Vigilance Flying Squad I team of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau claimed to have arrested one more accused from Varanasi in the infamous paper leak scam.

Giving information, Varinder Singh Brar, AIG (Vigilance), said the arrested accused had been identified as Ashok Rai, who was involved in leaking the question paper for the post of SDO of the Punjab Irrigation Department. “The accused has been arrested from Varanasi and our team is on the way from there to Mohali,” said AIG Brar.

Meanwhile, the local court has extended the police remand of Sailesh Kumar for four more days today, while the other accused, Anup Kumar, has been sent to judicial custody.

“Sailesh Kumar, who is also one of the key accused in the scam, was involved in leaking question papers for various senior posts of the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) and PUNSUP. Sailesh was the person, who had played an important role in procuring the papers from the press at Delhi (where the papers were published),” said DSP (Vigilance) Dharampal.

The rest two accused, Sanjay Shrivastava, alias Guruji, alias Masterji, alias Mithlesh Pandey, and Shiv Bahadur Singh are already on police remand till May 22.

“Our teams are conducting raids at Agra and other places at Uttar Pradesh to nab the rest six accused in the case,” said AIG Brar. So far, around 86 accused have been arrested in the case.
