Stones of Chamba, Nahan medical colleges laid

SHIMLA: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today laid the foundation stones of Nahan and Chamba medical colleges and 10 other health institutions in the state through video conferencing.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today laid the foundation stones of Nahan and Chamba medical colleges and 10 other health institutions in the state through video conferencing.

Besides laying the foundation stones for Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba and Dr YS Parmar Government Medical College, Nahan, stones of seven mother and child health wings were also laid. These will be set up at the two medical colleges at Tanda and Nahan, at Nurpur, Bilaspur, Sundernagar, Solan and Una at a total cost of Rs 112 crore. A budgetary allocation of Rs 189 crore and Rs 263 crore has already been made for the two medical colleges at Chamba and Nahan.

They also laid the foundation stone of a 50 bed indoor civil hospital at Ghumarwin in Bilaspur. The foundation stone of GNM training school at Tanda medical college was also laid. A sum of Rs 12.55 crore has been approved by the Centre out of which Rs 3.76 has already been released by the Centre. The foundation stone of a Tertiary Cancer Care Centre at Lal Bahadur Shastri medical College at Mandi was laid. Nadda said the purpose of establishing mother and child health wings is to meet the health requirements during pregnancy. The wings will house operation theatres, labour rooms, ICUs, new born care units and ante-natal and post natal blocks and early intervention centres for children. He said the endeavour was to provide the best possible health facilities to people even in the remotest rural areas of the state.

The CM said Rs 71 crore has been made available for providing 330 free medicines and consumables to the patients under Indira Gandhi Free Medicines Scheme in the state. He said that inoculation of Rubella Measles was being undertaken in the state with a target vaccinate 20 lakh children.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Kaul Singh, Thakur, Shimla Lok Sabha MP Virender Kashyap, Shimla MLA Suresh Bhardwaj and Kasumpti MLA Anirudh Singh were also presnt.
