In a relief to the Congress, the Delhi High Court today ruled that the party need not produce its accounts in the trial court in connection with a case on the alleged misappropriation of National Herald assets.
Justice PS Teji pointed out that the trial court had prematurely called for the party’s records as the complainant, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, had not justified the need for these.
The trial court had sought the balance sheets even without issuing notice to Congress leaders Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandes, named as accused by Swamy in the case, the High Court noted.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her deputy Rahul Gandhi have also been dragged into the case, but only Fernandes, Vora, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda had challenged the trial court order.
The High Court, however, granted liberty to Swamy to seek the records afresh. On February 12, the Supreme Court had refused to quash the criminal proceedings against the Gandhis and other Congress leaders.
