To identify the armed robbers who looted a jewellery store in Sector 44 here last week, the UT police are analysing information on the gangs involved in the heists at jewellery stores in the region.

The three miscreants, one of them sporting a fake beard, walked into the jewellery store in Sector 44 on May 14 and took the victim, Harsh Bedi, hostage before looting cash and jewellery lying in the store.

The police, who have failed to make any headway, are now going through the records of various gangs which had robbed jewellery stores.

UT SSP Nilambari Jagdale said they were working on various angles. “We are also focusing on the gangs behind jewellery loot cases,” the SSP added.

The SSP said they had procured lists of gangs from seven districts and anaylsing them. “We are hopeful of catching the culprits soon,” she added.

The footage of a camera installed inside the store had revealed that the suspects pointed a pistol at the victim and thrashed him. He was made to sit on one of the sofas at the store while they committed the robbery. Minutes before the incident, the victim had kept a bag containing jewellery in his car parked outside his showroom, which was also robbed by the miscreants. It took the robbers 33 minutes to commit the crime, after which they casually walked out of the store.

Police sources said the footage of CCTVs installed at the Sector 44 market was also scrutinised to get some clue to the robbers.
