India’s first-ever micro drama festival will be held in New Delhi on April 9. Each play will be for a maximum duration of 10 minutes. Plays in any Indian languages can be staged. The festival is being organised by Vriksh, a theatre group of Delhi.

Releasing the logo of Thespis: The National Micro Drama Festival 2017, the Director of the National School of Drama, Prof Waman Kendre, said that the concept of micro drama was novel, though it conformed to the modern trends as manifested in 20-20 cricket, SMSs and Tweets.

Veteran playwright Prof Omchery NN Pillai, who was present on the occasion, said that the festival was a bold experiment. “One can see 10 or 15 plays in the time required traditionally to see one drama”. The festival is named after Thespis of Icaria, who lived in the sixth century BC. He was the first actor to perform alone.

The festival is being organised under the leadership of Prof Abhilash Pillai, eminent theatre personality and faculty of the National School of Drama, and Ajit Maniyan.

The last date for receiving scripts is February 5. More details can be obtained at www.vrikshthetheatre.org
