A CBI Inspector of the special crime branch posted in Chandigarh and a Delhi man were arrested by the Delhi branch of the CBI yesterday for allegedly using a Sector 9-based pharmaceutical company’s car for the past one year.

The company’s assistant general manager, TK Sharma, had complained that the Inspector had approached the office of Nectar Life Sciences Ltd, Sector 9, in July 2015 and stated that he was posted in the area. The Inspector demanded a car from the company claiming that the official vehicle had broken down and he was in dire need of a vehicle to attend to an extremely urgent matter in Delhi.

The company gave its newly purchased Honda City car to the accused.

CBI sleuths revealed that despite repeated requests, the Inspector did not return the vehicle and later started threatening the company that if it asked for the car, he would frame it in some false case.

Sources said the Inspector had allegedly asked the company to transfer the car either in his name or in his relative’s name.

The sources said a case against CBI Inspector Ravinder Singla and his accomplice Gautam Sharma was registered on May 24 under Section 120-B of the IPC and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act in Delhi after verifying the complaint.

On May 25, a team of the CBI, Delhi, visited the CBI office in Sector 30, Chandigarh, and recovered the car keys from Singla’s pocket. The car was also recovered from the parking adjacent to the CBI office after which Singla was arrested.

Singla’s accomplice Gautam, a resident of Delhi, was also arrested by the CBI. The sources said during a raid at Sharma’s house in Delhi, some incriminating evidence pertaining to his involvement in the commission of offence had also been recovered. They were produced in the court today and remanded in four-day custody.
