Though the Malout Road has been closed by the district administration for the construction of the Railway over Bridge (ROB), yet the flow of traffic continued on it.
The administration has installed the sign boards mentioning that the road has been closed and the route diverted through Sivian road. But the commuters have been using the road putting their lives at risk.
The administration has deputed no person to keep a watch on those flouting the direction. The route was diverted after one person had died this month. But this did not helped change the situation as the flow of heavy traffic continued from both sides.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Damanjit Singh Mann said the administration had ordered that the road would remain closed. “The route has been diverted through Sivian road. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office has been asked to provide the security at the closed road so that nobody should take that route. In case of any violation the matter will be brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner.
Officiating Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kuldip Chahal, who has taken the charge recently said the police personnel would be deployed there to stop people using that road.
Naresh Kumar, a city resident said it seemed that there was no coordination among different government departments.
It is worth mentioning that the Sivia route from where this traffic has been diverted also witnessed one mishap, in which a truck caught fire after its upper portion came in contact with the high-tension wires.
