The department of lifelong learning, University of Jammu (JU), organised a daylong workshop on ‘Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplaces’ in collaboration with Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre, Jammu. Over 25 young sportspersons/ students from SAI Training Centre participated in the programme. Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, department of sports and physical education, JU, was the chief guest. He stressed the need to organise more such workshops for people in the field of sports. Varinder Sharma, in charge, Sports Training Centre, Jammu, said many programmes have been organised on different themes and sexual harassment was one of the crucial issues.

Football tournament at APS

Inter-Army Public Schools (Cluster-I) Football Tournament began at Army Public School (APS), BD Bari, on Tuesday. Brig Shailesh Sati, chairman of the school, along with principal Neeta Rawal and other dignitaries, was present at the opening ceremony. The motive for organising such sports events is to provide an extraordinary platform to the budding players to showcase their talent and hone their skills. A total of eight teams from various APSs are participating in this event. 

Lecture on research trends

Dr Balbir Singh, senior faculty, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, delivered an expert lecture on ‘Research Trends in Macro and Micro Electrical Discharge Machining’ in TEQIP-III sponsored short term course ‘Recent Advances in Micro Manufacturing’ (RAMM-2019). It was organised by department of mechanical engineering, Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jhansi (UP). While addressing faculty members from various engineering colleges, Dr Singh emphasised exposing students to industry, its emerging technologies and smart manufacturing and services so as to prepare them for the future industries.

Niranjan maintains lead in chess 

Top seed Navalgund Niranjan of Karnataka emerged sole leader with 6.5 points after the conclusion of seven rounds in the ongoing Jaiveer Singh FIDE Ratings Chess Tournament at International DPS. Garv Gaur of Haryana, Hemanth Raam of Tamil Nadu and Sparsh Khandelwal of Haryana are following the leader at 6 points each. At the joint V position are SP Sharma, Ashutosh Jamwal and Ravi Sharma of J&K and Manoj Kumar of Himachal Pradesh. The event is being organised by Crown Trust, under the banner of the All J&K Chess Association. Two rounds are still remaining in the championship.

Volleyball: GDC Leh beat Ganderbal 

In the final of Inter-College Women Volleyball Tournament -2019, held at University of Kashmir (KU), Government Degree College, Leh, beat Government Degree College Ganderbal 3-0. In the event, organised by the directorate of physical education and sports, 30 colleges participated, along with a team from the KU. Earlier, the first semifinal was played between GDC, Leh, and Women's College, Baramulla, and the second semifinal between KU and GDC, Ganderbal. 

Summer camp AT DPS 

Delhi Public School (DPS), Budgam, organised a summer camp for students of Class V and VI and sensitised them about the importance of conserving nature.
