In a relief for owners of commercial properties and traders, the Chandigarh Administration has allowed partition in all floors of single bay shops in the city for commercial use.

Sources said Finance Secretary Sarvjit Singh had recently issued a direction in this regard to the Estate Office after approval from UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore.

Traders and property owners had been raising the demand for allowing partition in shops for long.

Earlier, some of them had received penalty notices for partition in commercial buildings. The Finance Secretary has also simplified the procedure for getting permission for partition. “For getting permission, the owner is only required to submit the layout and deposit the prescribed fee with the Estate Office. Such layout, if not sanctioned within a period of 60 days, shall be deemed to be sanctioned thereafter. The Estate Officer can, however, at anytime check whether it has been done in conformity with the rules.”
